Indian Postal Circle is right now recruiting for the various posts like Postal Assistant (PA), Sorting Assistant (SA) and many others posts. India Postal recruitment examination (PA/PS Exam) 2014 Syllabus and Pattern


The Postal / Sorting Assistant Examination consists two papers.

Paper 1: Aptitude test

Total 100 multiple choice questions and 1 mark for each

4 sections will be covered in this paper

  1. General Knowledge Section
  2. Mathematic aptitude section
  3. English Grammar section
  4. Reasoning & Mental Ability section

Paper 2: Computer/ Typing Test

In this test typing speed will be checked

General Knowledge Section: Total 25 MCQ will be asked in this section

Topics asked in examination are below

  • Current Affairs (last 6 months updates on appointments, deaths, awards, summits etc)
  • Sports
  • Basic concepts of History
  • Geography 
  • Economy
  • Indian Polity 
  • General Science
  • 2014-2015 Budget of India
  • Constitution of India

Mathematic aptitude Section: Total 25 MCQ will be asked in this section 

Topics asked in examination are below

  • Prepare the basics of basic mathematics (shortcuts, process of finding squares, cubes, square roots, cube roots)
  • Simplifications
  • Approximations
  • Ratios and proportions
  • Simple and compound interests 
  • Percentages
  • Averages 
  • Profit loss
  • Time and distance
  • Time and work
  • Speed and distance
  • Mensuration etc.

Note: Focus more on Mensuration and Simplifications as many questions will be asked from these areas.

English language section: Total 25 MCQ will be asked in this section

Reasoning & Mental Ability section: Total 25 MCQ will be asked in this section

  • Comparisons (ranking test)

Note: Traditional non verbal reasoning like cubes and dice problems. Focus more on basic reasoning concepts, prepare basic techniques and place values of alphabets.

Only 5 times of candidates who will qualify examination will be called for Paper 2 based on vacancies

Paper 2: Computer/ Typing Test

  • This test is of 30 minutes
  • Consists of two parts
  • Those are Typing Test (15 minutes) and Data Entry (15 minutes)
Candidates must have typing speed of 30 words per minute (in English) and 25 words per minute (in Hindi)
